Ten of Wands symbolism

A man carries ten heavy wands bundled in his arms, bent under their weight as he walks toward a town. The bundle blocks his view. He will get there, but at a cost.

The Ten of Wands belongs to the suit of Wands (also called Rods, Batons or Staves), the fire suit that deals with energy, passion, creativity, ambition and action. In tarot numerology, 10 is the number of completion, and the element carried to its fullest (sometimes to excess). The Golden Dawn assigned this card to Saturn in Sagittarius and gave it the title Lord of Oppression.

Ten completes each suit and often shows the element carried to excess. Fire overextended becomes burden. Saturn in Sagittarius, restriction in the sign of freedom, captures the feeling of being weighed down by commitments once taken on with enthusiasm. The Golden Dawn titled it Oppression.
