Number, element and astrology
The Ten of Pentacles belongs to the suit of Pentacles (also called Coins or Disks; Diamonds in playing-card terms), the earth suit that deals with money, work, the body, home and material security. In tarot numerology, 10 is the number of completion, and the element carried to its fullest (sometimes to excess). The Golden Dawn assigned this card to Mercury in Virgo and gave it the title Lord of Wealth.
Ten completes the suit, and completed earth is legacy. Mercury in Virgo governs transmission, the passing of knowledge and property through generations. The Golden Dawn simply called it Wealth. The ten pentacles are arranged as the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, suggesting that true wealth has a spiritual dimension.
