Professor J. Rhodes Buchanan, a pioneer writer on psychometry, coined the term sargonomy to denote a therapeutic science of the relationship between the body and brain.
He advanced the idea that the whole body is expressive; that the entire form is the embodiment of the character, that each part of the evolving surface not only has physiological characteristics but also psychological powers, that each portion of this cutaneous surface exercises, through the nervous system, a direct action on some particular part of the brain.
Buchanan thought a study of these relationships would be of value toward the treatment of disease. A.G.H.
