Ruby

by Kurt Buehler

Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum, the second hardest mineral, surpassed only by diamond. Rubies are thought to ward off misfortune and ill health. Its healing powers are associated with the heart chakra: it balances love and all spiritual endeavours; improves self-esteem; strengthens neurological tissues around the heart; and is said to prevent miscarriages. Ruby is known as the stone of love and is capable of reconciling lovers’ quarrels. They are given as a symbol of success, devotion and integrity.

Ruby is the anniversary gemstone for the 15th and 40th year of marriage.
