Baus was not God but a spirit who could send a message to God who was represented by a snake. It was the witch doctor, a brujo, who could send the people's message to the Bus who then talked to God. Baus gave the special power to the brujo to be a translator so the messages of the people could be sent to God.
The brujo, even though he was human, was highly respected because he knew everything that would happen: when a snake was going to bite someone, when someone was going to drown or die. He knew all of these things. He could see in the future. He knew when there was going to be a good harvest or a bad one. The most frightening thing about him was when he would make somebody disappear. (Bruncas of Columbia, South America) A.G.H.
