Erra, Mesopotamian (Babylonian-Akkadian), is a god of war, mainly known from the Erra Epic, about 1000 BC. He is also the god of raids, riots, and scorched earth. Closely identified with the god Nergal, his cult center was Erasalm in the city of Kutha (lost). In the Babylonian period he was identified as the plague god. A.G.H.
