Emes, Mesopotamia (Sumerian), is god of vegetation, being created at the wish of Enki to be responsibility on earth for the woods, fields, sheepfolds, and stables. He is identified with the abundance of the earth and with summer. Although an unidentified deity, Emes might be depicted iconographically with a plough. A.G.H.
