Lotan


Lotan or Lawtan designates the serpent or dragon in Ugaritic myths. This serpent is either a pet of the god Yamm or an aspect of the god himself, a cosmic ocean of myth frequently consider the big stream. Analogous in Hebrew is Yam, the sea, or Leviathan, who represents the chaotic force of the sea that raises damaging storms. Yam continually battles Baal, the sky-god.
