Moab, perhaps means from father, was the son of Lot’s oldest daughter which she bore out of incest with her father. According to Biblical scripture, Genesis 19:30-38, there were no men in the land which Lot and his two daughters traveled to after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah; they had journeyed to Zoar but Lot was afraid of staying there, so they went into the nearby mountainous region and stayed in a cave. The daughters got their father drunk on wine and slept with him to preserve his seed. Lot did not know when they where with him or got up. The first born son was named Moab, the progenitor of the Moabites. The youngest daughter also bore a son named Ben-ammi (Ammon), the father of the children of Ammoni, or Ammonites. A.G.H.
