Ki

Ki, the great one, Mesopotamian (Sumerian), is considered an archetypal principle. In some traditions Ki is thought to be the daughter of Ansar and Kisar and the consort of An. As the cosmos formed, An became the god of the heaven while Ki became the personification of the earth and underworld. She is the mother of the air god, Enlil, with whom she descended from the heaven. There is no evidence of a cult for Ki since the name only appears in a limited number of Sumerian creation texts. (The name also may be related to Uras.) A.G.H.
