Isaac Luria

Isaac Luria was a Kabbalist and a mystic who was born in Jerusalem. He lived and studied in Egypt, and was a member of a group devoted to studying the mystical aspect of the Hebrew religion. A follower of the Zohar, he developed a body of doctrines that initiated the modern esoteric development of Kabbalism. His work became established in Eastern Europe and profoundly influenced Hasidism. The Hasidim organized Luria’s work into aspects combining the speculative and ineffable senses of the mystic. A.G.H.
