The Fates or Moerae were the daughters of Zeus and Themis, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos, determined the destiny of every man. This destiny was represented by a thread which the first of the Fates drew from her distaff, the second wound, ant the third cut when the life-span it represented was over. A.G.H.
