Definition

A Diviner is a  person who guesses or predicts the future. A person who practices Divination. It is also known as fortune teller.

The word diviner is derived from the verb divine. It comes from the Latin addivinare, guess or imagine, It is composed of ad (approximation) and divinare (guess, predict). The basis of meaning is the consultation with the gods to predict the future. The adjective divinus is derived from virus (god). Divus means luminous or being of light.

 

What does a diviner do

A diviner is a person who makes predictions or who pretends to discover hidden or unknown things by means of procedures that are not based on reason or scientific knowledge, especially by means of magic or the interpretation of signs of nature.
