Alluph is a demon appearing in Mathers’ translation of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage. The demon’s name may come from Aleph, the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Alluph equally serves the demonic princes of the four cardinal directions Oriens, Paimon, Ariton, and Amaimon and equally shares in their powers. Mathers designated the name as meaning “duke” or “bull.” However, “Bull” is more likely since the pictograph that ultimately represented the letter aleph originally represented the head of a bull.
